Well it is getting really close to our time to come back home for a visit. We are very excited to see everyone again and to show off our new addition to the family. We should arrive in Lanesville on February 12th late that evening. While being at home we are making a few visits to churches to give a presentation about NCF and how we are serving God here.
It is funny how God works in your life and you look back and wonder “was he preparing us for this all along?” In the past twelve months before we arrived at NCF Joey and I gave three talks in front of our church…Was that preparation for what we are about to do outside of our church? I think so!!
A year ago as most of you already know, we took a Perspectives class on missions. Joey Sr. told me during this class he was feeling led to serve in Africa in an orphanage. Well here we are in Arizona and we are working on becoming foster parents. Joey was close they both begin and end with the letter “A” and we will be helping children. Who knows maybe that is where we will end up still in the future?
A week ago Joey Sr., Renee, and I attended a preparation class for Foster Parenting. Afterwards we had a list of items to get together and turn back into our foster parenting recruiter. We had a lot of the items already except reference letters, first aide, CPR, fire safety, and physicals. It is so awesome to watch God in action for you. After the meeting that day (which was a Friday) Carol and I went to the post office to check the mail and Carol said “look there at that tall man he gives those classes you all need, go talk to him” So I asked him and he said yes and his next class was next week; Tuesday was the fire safety and Wednesday was CPR & first aide. Now how awesome was that. Coincidence I don’t think so!! I am happy to report that all we are waiting on now is our physicals and of course the Approval. Thanks to everyone that helped out writing our reference letters we appreciate your time and the very kind words you said about us.
Things around NCF have been pretty slow these past couple of months due to the weather. It has been very cold and this past week it has been very snowy. We have probably gotten over 12inches of snow this week. The cold weather has kept us from the use of the gym and we have not been able to have any classes or open gym. The pipes were frozen and we had no running water. This past week they finally unfroze and busted another main part. All of these problems have kept us from renting the facility as well.
Prior to Joey Sr. becoming a Christian he had interest in horses and it had nothing to do with riding them. He occasionally enjoyed visiting them at Church Hill Downs. That interest has now changed from betting on them to riding them and because of his new love for horses God has gave Joey the opportunity to witness and help someone through a life struggle. We witnessed the seed Joey has been planting take root and sprout up a little the other day. Through prayer and guidance from God we are hopeful for this young man.
Joey has been put in charge of the adults that come to NCF to do their community service he will be over seeing them and there work. Joey will be able to work closely with them. To us this is another incident where we saw how God prepares us today for the future. Joey was a part of the REC. Residents Encounter Christ, a jail ministry that gives hope to those who have made mistakes.
God really seems to have our life planed out and He knows exactly what He is doing. You just have to submit to Him and His will for yourself. It’s not always easy but the blessings are worth it and you feel like there is a true purpose to your life when you live it for Him. We feel very blessed to be where we are today.
I can’t end this blog without talking about my new grandson I am happy to report baby Taylor is doing really well, God has had His hands over him and protecting him because everyone in the house has been sick with some kind of stomach virus and a fever. He is growing quickly, everyday he wakes up he looks a little bigger. He is starting to “goo” and “gaa” and is constantly got his eyes focused on our ceiling. I think it’s the color contrast of the white ceiling and the brown beams. He is a good baby and is overly loved.
Joey and I have been filling in for Carol & James at the children’s homes, as they have been traveling. We have noticed that the kids seem to get bored during the winter months. We have games and books but not much more than that. There are toys mainly for 2-5yrs old. The children we are getting are usually between the age 8-12 and teens between the ages of 16-17. So Joey and I thought we would make up a wish list or if you all can think of something else the kids may enjoy we would appreciate any donations.
Speaking of the children let me bring you up to date on them. When we first arrived there was a girl that I called “Sally” that was here, well she was released to her biological mother right before Christmas. We were so happy for her; she had been here for several months and was ready to go home. She is doing really well. The night “Sally” left we received a sister and brother who was with us all during Christmas and was finally released back to their parents the end of December due to a technically of the court system. We still have our 17yr old girl who will probably be released next month when she turns 18, and we have an 8yr old boy.
Please join us and pray for the following:
1. As we prepare for our presentation to share.
2. Our approval to become foster parents.
3. The reopening of the gym.
4. The young man with the life struggle
5. The community service workers and the chance to witness to them.
6. The children that are here and that have already gone back home and those still yet to come.
7. Our family as we travel home for our visit.
8. More doors to open for us to share about NCF
9. Our finances/support
If anyone is interested, NCF has started a blog as well. We will update it once a month usually the first week of each month. This is to keep everyone updated on the events, praises, and prayer request. The blog is http://www.navajochristianfoundation.blogspot.com/
