"Field of Dreams"

In the movie “Field of Dreams” people thought Kevin Costner's character was crazy for building a baseball field in the middle of his corn field. He kept going because of the voice he heard, “if you build it, they will come.”

Here at NCF (Navajo Christian Foundation) we haven't built a baseball field, but we have opened the gym several nights a week and the people are coming Praise God!! Not only are people coming, they are stepping up and volunteering. Opening the facilities more often means more work and the community is starting to step up to help us out. To see people stepping up really is confirmation from God that we are here, doing what He wants us to be doing.

We recently had a family of five come and sweep and mop the gym floor. We have had a young man want to give a devotion to his people. Last week on Children's night we were so excited because none of them left before Angie gave her devotional. In the past, several would have left. This was another very encouraging sign because staying means that seeds get planted and we all know what God can do with a planted seed!

The open gym nights are really beginning to be a big hit. On Monday nights Bo's Bible study class is bringing in 30 people regularly. Then on Tuesday, attendance has been ranging from between 50 and 60 people. Wednesday nights are growing, too. At first, we had about 12 and now it is up to 20 children. Thursday's discipleship class has about seven, which doesn't seem like many, but Christ used 12 disciples to change the world, so maybe he can use these seven to change the Navajo world.

We have also opened up on Friday nights to offer people of the community something else to do on the weekend besides being out on the “DIRT ROADS“. To accomplish this, we have even extended the hours we are open. Our hope is that we will somehow come up with a way to play movies on Friday nights and get "families" more involved together.

Angie is also going to start a children’s Bible study this summer when school is out.
Her plan is to have it during the day twice a week, so please be in prayer with us that children will want to come and once they get here, that their minds will be receptive to learning about our God!

In addition to opening the NCF grounds, we recently sent it across America as we mailed out our newsletter for the first quarter. We hope that people who support us would use the newsletter to stay informed with what we have going on here. Our hope is that more people will want to jump on board and be a part of the revival that we feel is happening here. If you didn't get a copy and would like to be added to the mailing list, send us an e-mail at angie_browning1971@yahoo.com

Angie and I aren't the only ones who are busy. The children’s' home has seen some more children come and go. Elijah was finally able to go back home and be reunited with his mom. The day that happened we got to witness him run back into his mother's arms

it was such a wonderful sight. That little boy was so happy! While staying here at NCF we grew very close to him, Lil' Joey and I had him all the time running around with us. He was our little side-kick. Lil Joey is working on fixing him up a bike we have here and its almost finished and once it's done, we are going to deliver it to him.

We had three more children that were brother and sister come to us for about a week. They were very cute and special children. The first night here we went over to help Carol get them settled in with baths and dinner and getting their beds fixed. Angie helped the girls and when she showed them their room, they were both so excited and for the first time we heard a kid say, "wow this is so cool, the room is our favorite color, and we have our own bed we never want to leave here" They were excited to be here!

Most of the time, the kids are sad and are crying and wanting there parents. Angie talked to them and found out they lived in a one room home and there was about 12 of them and they all slept in the same room and shared three couches. The kids were adorable and they came to us due to sexual abuse to the little girls. Now within a few days we started to see some of them missing their family and ready to go back home.

The day the social worker came to pick them up, the middle child who was a little girl cried and cried to Angie not wanting to go home. It was very hard to bare and to this day she still thinks about them and prays for them. We have been able to track them a little by talking to some of the kids that come to gym night. We heard that they moved so, hopefully, they are in a much better place and are safe and happy.

We know they are all in God's hands. We hope you will join us in praying for not only those kids, but all of the people here who don't know Christ. There are several things I would ask you to join us in praying for. Please pray for me, Angie and Lil Joey. We love serving the Lord, but we do miss our lives in Lanesville from time to time. Pray that we would be so filled with His love that we don't have any room to miss the people back home so much. Pray that the Lord would open our eyes to who and what He wants us to do to bring the light of Christ into this darkened part of this country. Pray that He would provide the financial support that allows us to stay here and be part of what we see happening.

Pray for Bo and his family, James and Carol and their family. Pray for future children who haven't even arrived, pay for this community and pray for these people in general. Addiction is so bad out here. We recently had someone admit they have a problem with drugs and is getting treatment. We don't want to mention the name but God knows, so please pray for that person as well.

Another person who needs prayer is Cari. She is in the children’s home and has been going to her sister's house on the weekends. But they recently had a falling out – it was related to dishonesty and alcohol. Now, when she graduates school she has no where to go! Her mom and brother are incarcerated, which has happened since she has been staying here.

So please keep us, NCF, the NCF staff, children’s home occupants and the community lifted up daily.
I promise to try to do updates more often. Angie has a heavy load to keep up with, James expressed his desire for her to have an accounting degree so she prayed for about a week and then a peace came over her so she decided to go back to school and take online accounting courses through University of Phoenix. So being the good husband I am I told her I would take over our blog to help her out ;-)

God bless you guys!

Joey Browning

  1. We aren't really supposed to be prideful, but I am pleased to you stepping up Joey. Good luck with school Angie. You will be fine, I think you graduated from Floyd Central twice (just kidding Renee)! We love you guys and are excited to see how God is using you and New Life in this part of the world!
